The first Brazilian DJ: Seu Osvaldo Pereira

Um post para os amigos brasileiros...
Brazil has definitely the "vinyl culture". From the 50s, a huge record production representing the variety of brazilian music styles makes it a paradise for diggers.
Here's an interview of Osvaldo Pereira, considered as the first brazilian DJ, talking about "time when turn table was gramophone" and looking back to several decades of music selection in Brazil.

Danson & Charanga Night, Dakar

Great party flyer, with DJs from the 60s-70s period in Dakar... latin records all night long! Probably the best place to perceive how much music from the other side of the atlantic ocean was (omni)present in urban Senegal.  At this time, big part of DJs selections was cuban music arrived from the 50s through sailors. (It remains easier to dig latin records than african records in Dakar now). Dakar danced deacades to this latin (and caribbean) rhythms, which influenced deeply local musicians and productions.
Big up to Duo Los Compadres...

Femi Kuti concert in Paris / Remix by Babaliah

Last sunday at La Bellevilloise, Femi Kuti hold a private concert to launch his next album. Although I prefer the father than the son, his orginal approach and positive vibration made the atmosphere pretty hot...
This is good opportunity to introduce here a remix realised in 2009 by Babaliah (Palmwine Records) from a Femi Kuti song. One step forward in afrobeat inspired sounds...

You better ask yourself - Babaliah remix:

Mangalha - The biggest vinyls collection in Angola

Jose Henrique Ribeiro, famous in Luanda as "Mangalha", comes back in this interview on his vinyl collector experiences in Angola.

Bob Pinodo and Reggae mix

In order to remember last month Pamwine Party in Paris "Jamaica meets Africa", here's a reggae-soul flavoured track from Bob Pinodo (Ghana) played to introduce the "Africa" set.
It comes from the album "Master Show of Africa" recored in 1978 for Essiebons label.

Bob Pinodo - Africa:

And here follows a part of the jamaican  live selection (Selecta Olive - Boom Boom Collective) played that night:

"danse et musique" - Miles Cleret in Paris!

Best sound in town was defenitely at Dansoir Karine Soporta this weekend. Great old style wooden big top / chapiteau with top class dancefloor.
Special place for special music: Luck Steady invited Miles Cleret (soundway records) to share a bit of his unique collection of african and caribean vinyls with Paulo (superfly).
As expected, the selection was really heavy (you have to listen to that!) ... master digger gems, always good for dancefloor...
Hard to recognize a tune among these frenzy cumbias, trinidad funk, tumbele, ethio, brazilian... (also a huge track from chris mcgregor). Too many groovy rythms in one night and really perfect party for what the outdoor light announces: "danse et musique "

It was really cold outside, but all theses tropical vibes made inside so hot that it just would have deserved a bit more people to come discover and enjoy (but personnally i enjoyed dancing with enough space during some latin tracks). I am sure there will be more of these anyway...
Tracks (musical TV show from Arte) should broadcast something about Miles with an interview. Curious about it.
No sound on this post, better wash your ears going to these parties (some tunes you listen once in a life...)
thx Miles
